About Naija Poetry Fest

Naija Poetry Fest (NPF) celebrates the beauty of language, culture, and creativity through various poetic expressions. The event will feature captivating poetry renditions by talented individuals, a thrilling talent show showcasing the diverse skills within the literary/academic community, both within and outside the university, as well as other engaging side attractions. Naija Poetry Fest promises to be a gathering of diverse talents and perspectives.

The theme for the maiden edition 2024 is: Unleashing the Spellbinding Power of Spoken & Penned Words, and is scheduled to hold on World Poetry Day, Thursday, March 21, 2024 at The Glass House Hall, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Yaba, Lagos.

World Poetry Day celebrates one of humanity’s most treasured forms of cultural and linguistic expression and identity. It is the occasion set aside to honour poets, revive oral traditions of poetry recitals, promote the reading, writing and teaching of poetry, foster the convergence between poetry and other arts such as theatre, dance, music and painting, and raise the visibility of poetry in the media.

Register to participate in the Poetry Slam Competition at this year’s edition of Naija Poetry Fest, either as a poet, rapper, spoken word artist, etc., and stand a chance to win a SCHOLARSHIP worth US$4,000 (yes, four thousand dollars), courtesy one of our partners, Career Builders Direct. This is exclusive to students with at least second-class upper or upper credit (for polytechnic students).
